Love Rori - conceptual zine (CD100)

For this brief we were given creative freedom to design exploratory conceptual zine.
I made a zine designed as a school notebook, capturing an intimate glimpse into the mind of a young teenage girl. This notebook is filled with doodles, thought's, feelings, written conversations between friends, and diary entries, all in a youthful, scrapbook style.

‘Love Rori’ follows the story of a 15 year old girl named Rori, and her crush on a new student named Jemilla. I used mixed media (including sticky notes, washi tape, torn up paper, glitter pens , ink, and stickers, and a youthful, spring colour palette of bright pastels (pink, purple, green and yellow) as well as warm browns. I designed kawaii, line art doodles to be incorporated. The ultimate goal of this concept is to encapsulate the
nostalgic feelings of youthfulness, innocent playfulness and
impulsive expression without expectation.

Final Outcome

The making of ‘Love Rori’ was a nostalgic and charming process. As I worked on the contents for each spread I became enveloped into the storyline that threaded its way into the subject matter, and I think this characteristic really helped me to make the final product read as very authentic. The little details such as to-do-lists not being fully completed, Sam (the best friend) writing in the same colour every time, and the water-droplet stains on the last ‘daily log’ entry, bring individuality and personality to the design.
